Genocide Prevention Initiative - February 28

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Prevention of Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity (GPG), in partnership with the National Capital Branch of the Canadian International Council (CIC), will host a panel presentation featuring GPG Chair, Senator Roméo Dallaire, Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) Executive Director, Tibi Galis, and US Ambassador at Large for War Crimes, Stephen Rapp. The group will be meeting February 28 with the Genocide Prevention Parliamentary Group, and with the Canadian Foreign Minister.

"Bankrupting Terrorism - One Law Suit at a Time" (February 11 - Ottawa)

Please join us for a talk by Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, Director of Shurat Ha Din - Israel Law Center (http://www.israellawcenter.org/)  for a discussion of her work at Shurat Ha Din, a civil rights organization which is based in Israel. Her work has been dedicated to combating terrorist organizations through litigation in domestic courts.

She will be speaking from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM on February 11th in the Rendez Vous Room at 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa. Light refreshments will be provided.

This event is co-sponsored by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, and the Canadian Council on International Law.

Registration now open for the International Investment Law Seminar (February 8, 2013 Toronto)

The CCIL will host a half-day seminar on international investment law at Bennett Jones in Toronto, February 8, 2013. 

Professor Debra Steger, Matthew Kronby, Professor Armand de Mestral, Michael Solursh, Professor Gus Van Harten, and Professor Dieudonné Édouard Onguene Onana will present on various subjects.  

In particular, the seminar intends to address recent issues on international investment law in Canada such as the Canadian-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, legal issues and consequences of Canada's ratification of the ICSID Convention, the Canada European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agrements (CETA) and problems of negotiating Foreign Direct Investment issues with the European Union in the light of its Newly-expanded Competence. John Terry and Milos Barutciski will be the respective chairs of the panels.

Bennett Jones has graciously accepted to host the event in its Toronto office.
