Please join us on Thursday, September 29, 2016 for a complimentary panel discussion and cocktail reception with Global Affairs Canada on The CETA Investment Court and the Future of Investor-State Dispute Settlement. The session will be presented by Fasken Martineau's Litigation and Dispute Resolution group and the
Canadian Council on International Law.
After feeling the heat from a number of NGOs, concerned citizens and governments, both Canada and the European Union have accepted a new international investment court system for resolving investor-state disputes. It would include an appeals process and stricter rules on impartiality and independence. This new initiative could have a profound effect on the future of investor-state dispute settlement, especially if it is adopted in more trade and investment agreements in the future.
Find out what the experts think in a panel discussion and Q&A session that touches on the following questions:
Will the investment court idea catch on as a new model for settling investor-state disputes?
Does design of the CETA investment court adequately respond to attacks on the legitimacy of ISDS?
What are the practical implications of the CETA investment court for parties to disputes?
How can we expect ISDS to evolve in the coming years - and should it exist at all?
