The Trade Law Bureau (JLT), a joint unit of the Global Affairs Canada and the Department of Justice, is pleased to announce the availability of legal internship positions for the summer of 2018. We anticipate filling six (6) positions from this process.
The Trade Law Bureau has the mandate to provide international trade and investment law services to all Canadian government departments and agencies. Legal interns will have the unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with JLT lawyers on high-profile international trade and investment disputes and negotiations and will gain valuable practical experience in providing legal advice with respect to Canada’s international trade and investment obligations.
Legal interns will be responsible for, among other things, conducting research on Canada’s international legal obligations under various trade and investment treaties (in particular, the WTO Agreements and NAFTA), assisting JLT lawyers in dispute settlement proceedings arising out of Canada’s international trade and investment obligations and assisting JLT lawyers in the negotiation of free trade and investment protection agreements.
The term of the positions will be approximately from May – August 2018. Legal interns will be paid a competitive hourly rate.
