The Canadian Council on International Law is excited to announce that the Program for the 54th Annual Conference is now available online.
The CCIL Annual Conference is attended by more than 300 professionals and students each year from across Canada and around the globe, including over 80 highly respected speakers in international law. This year’s in-person conference will be held on November 13–14, 2025 in Ottawa. The theme of this year’s conference is “Friends, Enemies, Frenemies: Engagement and Retaliation in International Law”. The keynote speakers will be Lloyd Axworthy (former Minister of Foreign Affairs), Gabrielle Marceau (a Professor and former legal adviser in international disputes at the World Trade Organization) and Jean-Marc Thouvenin (a Professor of International Law and Secretary-General of The Hague Academy of International Law).
This year’s conference promises to bring together leading voices in international law to explore timely and thought-provoking issues shaping our global legal landscape. Whether you're a seasoned expert or a student just beginning your journey, the CCIL Conference offers a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and engage.
Conference Program
The program will feature familiar highlights, including plenary sessions, engaging concurrent panels, and the popular Careers in International Law event for students and early-career lawyers. This year, additional transition breaks have been added to foster networking between sessions.
