Humphrey Fellows Panel: International Law and the Protection of Human Dignity - Friday March 20, 2026

The CCIL is pleased to present the fourth edition of the Humphrey Fellows Panel being held online Friday, March 20, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm EDT around the theme "International Law and the Protection of Human Dignity”.


This panel showcases works in progress from the Humphrey Fellows of the Canadian Council on International Law (CCIL), whose research was made possible by the Humphrey Fellowship. The John Peters Humphrey Student Fellowships in International Human Rights Law or International Organization are the result of a bequest to CCIL by the late John Peters Humphrey, a renowned Canadian international lawyer and scholar.


Panelists:


  • Nicolas Kamran – "Unto Dust We Shall Return: Civil War and the Duty to Return Mortal Remains in International Law"

  • Luiz Henrique Pecora – "The Right to Reparation of Human Rights Violations of Indigenous Peoples: A Case Study on the Yanomani People"

  • Rhona Goodarzi – "Reconceptualising the Right to Protest"


The panel will be moderated by Dr. Heidi Matthews, Assistant Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.


The panelists will briefly present their research followed by questions from the audience. Presentations will be given in English or French with live translation via Wordly.
